Baby Photographer – Gemma at 8 Months

My neice Gemma has reached the fun age of 8 months. I’d like to say that she adores her Aunt Meggan, but at her session, she was definitely giving me the stink eye. ;)   I will just blame it on teeth issues (hers, not mine! haha!) We persevered and with her mom acting like the total goof ball behind me, we coaxed a few beautiful smiles out of her (along with some VERY silly faces!)

Newborn Photographer – Meet Ava!

This little beauty came to visit just a few days after she was born… so sweet!

Baby Photographer – Christopher is One!

When Christopher’s mom contacted me in early November to schedule his One Year portrait session, I have to admit, I had to look back at my calendar and double check that 12 months had indeed gone by since his newborn portrait session. I just couldn’t believe it! 2011 went by TOO FAST!

We had a ton of fun at his session – he brought in his best bud Tigger with him and we even destroyed a cake. :) Turning one is certainly fun, but I think he’s discovering that the best adventures are soon to come!

Certification Creates Confidence

You may have noticed the words CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER in a few places on my website and blog and wondered exactly what that means and why do I make such a big deal out of it?

When I first set out to obtain my CPP designation, it was purely self-motivated challenge.  I never intended to promote this designation as I really didn’t foresee how having this credential would be a benefit to my clients – after all, I’d already been shooting professionally for 5 years when I started the process. How would three little letters after my name really change anything?

Within the professional photography community, the CPP credentials are viewed as an official licensing of sorts – similar to how a lawyer or a doctor must take the final testing once they’ve finished their initial schooling prior to setting up their practice.  Unlike lawyers or doctors (or several other professions), photographers are not REQUIRED to obtain certification prior to starting their business – it’s an optional process that only a very small percentage of photographers elect to go through.

Earning your CPP is a two-part process. One part is an exam that tests your technical competency and the other is a 20-image portfolio review that assesses your application of the technical skills and your vision as an artist.   I found the image review to be the most challenging and intimidating – what I was basically seeking  was a peer approval from a group of  qualified and experienced photographers that I am producing work that is certifiably professional.

And that’s when it dawned on me – while a large part of obtaining my CPP was a personal challenge for myself, the bottom line is that those three little letters are truly a benefit to my  current and potential clients.  Having the CPP credentials offers  reassurance to my clients that I know what I am doing when I pick up my equipment. That the images you see in my portfolio are not a fluke or a stroke of luck – they are a very deliberate creation by me for my clients. Yes, all sessions are different – there are certain dynamics that are out of my control.  But you can be assured that the things within my control are being manipulated by an experienced professional that has, essentially, been endorsed by other professional peers within the photography community.

Bottom line - You can hire Meggan Jacks Photography with confidence that you will have a truly professional portrait experience and beautiful photographs of your family.

Newborn Photography – Meet Ryan!

I will sneak in one last newborn post before 2011, but don’t worry –  I still have a few newborns that I photographed before Christmas to share, so be sure to check back in after the first. ;)

I know I gush all the time about the sweet little babies I get to play with in studio – Ryan was no exception to that rule. He was the perfect sweetheart, sharing his big brown eyes with us for a few moments and then dozing off for a good portion of the rest of the session. I think he only popped his eyes open periodically to make sure that his mom and dad hadn’t run off! As if!

Newborn Photographer – Meet Abigail!

Miss Abigail brought in her big, furry sister, Hannah, with her to her session. Both girls were on their best behavior and the session resulted in an AMAZING set of newborn portraits!  Here are a few of my favorites:

Newborn Photographer – Meet Elijah!

Elijah is one LOVED little boy – I met his momma at her maternity session and her excitement for his arrival was very evident! Such a pleasure to work with – he was the perfect gentleman during his session!

Phoenix Baby Photographer – Ivy is One!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Miss Ivy – she is such a charming little girl – smiling and clapping and just absolutely adorable. I didn’t want to let her go home, but I think her happiness level was tied into the presence of her mom and it would likely plummet if Mom left without her.  Miss Ivy is too precious to make so unhappy, so I let her leave the studio at the end of her session with her mom. :) phoenix baby photographer, first birthday portraits

Newborn Photographer – Meet Lila!

Miss Lila was such a pleasure to photograph! Huge thanks to her Mom & Dad for sharing her with me!
